A native of Scottsdale, Arizona, Matthew
Fritz is currently the Music Director of the Parkway Concert
Orchestra in Norwood, MA. While just at the beginning of his conducting experiences,
Matthew served two seasons as the Conductor of Youth Programming with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. He has had the opportunity to guest conduct the Portland Symphony,
Southern Arizona Symphony, Quincy Symphony, Cape Ann Symphony, and the Phoenix
Symphony Guild Youth Orchestra. Matthew has also conducted the Mendoza Symphony in
Argentina, and worked with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra through the
Eastman Summer Conducting Institute. He holds a master’s degree
in orchestral conducting
from the Eastman School of Music, and a bachelor’s degree from
Arizona State University in violin performance. His principal conducting teachers were
Neil Varon and Robert Moody.
While at Eastman, Matthew was an active member of
the Neo Chamber Orchestra both as conductor and violinist when it began in
2005. He served as music director of this unique organization for the 2006-2007
season. Matthew currently lives in the Boston area with his wife Theresa, where he is an
active violinist and conductor. He is passionate about sharing music with
others, especially those who might not ordinarily be exposed to orchestral music.
